Plastic Free Baby Weaning
Plastic-free baby weaning, without the waste
Weaning routines change quickly — tiny portions become snacks, then nursery meals, then packed lunches. This hub is here to make the early stage simpler: practical prep tips, safer storage, and a set that grows with your family.
Start simple. Prep a few basics. Store them well. Stainless steel helps you buy less, waste less, and keep food fresher — without plastic tubs piling up.

Why stainless steel makes sense for baby food
Weaning is often when families buy lots of small plastic pots. Many are quickly outgrown, stain easily, and end up replaced. Stainless steel is a long-life alternative: it doesn’t absorb smells, it’s tougher over years of use, and it stays looking clean.
- No staining: tomato, curry, berries — your containers stay looking fresh.
- No lingering smells: so you’re not “retiring” tubs after one strong meal.
- Hot & cold friendly: useful for warming food or packing chilled snacks.
- Durable: designed to last through baby, toddler and beyond.
Sustainability (without the guilt)
We see sustainability as an outcome of better design: when something lasts longer, you replace it less. Choosing containers that evolve with your child’s routine reduces the need for “weaning pots”, then “snack pots”, then “nursery tubs”.
A simple system also helps reduce food waste — when portions are visible and organised, they’re more likely to be used rather than forgotten.
A realistic weaning meal-prep routine
1) Prep a few basics, not full meals
Think flexible “base foods” you can combine quickly: steamed veg, soft fruit, porridge, rice, pasta, lentils, omelette strips. This makes daily meals easier without cooking from scratch each time.
2) Portion small and keep a dedicated shelf
Early weaning is about exposure, not volume. Smaller portions reduce waste and make variety easier. A dedicated “baby shelf” keeps food visible (and therefore used).
3) Freeze the extras in realistic amounts
Freezing small portions gives you options on busy days. Defrost only what you need, and rotate through a few safe favourites.
Reducing food waste (and the Lft Ovrs app)
Lft Ovrs started with a simple problem: good food gets forgotten. During weaning, it’s even easier to lose track of what’s in the fridge or freezer. Our containers include a QR code designed to support tracking and reduce waste over time.
Note: the Lft Ovrs app is currently undergoing an update and is unavailable until further notice. The containers still work perfectly as premium stainless storage — and we’ll bring the system side back when it’s ready.
